Dear friends,
It’s been 300 years since last I wrote. I needed to take time off from writing for many reasons brain-injury-related. For example: a) no looking at screens and b) existential crisis.
Luckily those two things, while not gone entirely, have eased considerably!
I’ve been thinking more long-form recently but have felt totally overwhelmed by the possibilities of what to put here. So, I thought I should get your advice. What would you like to receive from me? Please reply!!! Otherwise it might be several more months until you hear from me again, and I might just be asking the same question.
Here are some ideas:
-More art assignments (previous assignments include making drawings with spaghetti noodles and following birdsong)
-A video or written post about everything in my flat file (think scrap drawings, old paintings, other people’s art, collage material, etc.)
-A video or written post about all of my childhood work that’s in the plastic tote that my mom brought me from home. (scary! emo!)
-Soul-baring update on the brain injury journey and how it’s impacted my sense of self/creativity (I’m up for it)
-One giant email of as much of my hand-drawn type from STATE the Label emails as I can find, compiled as a poem
-How did I make that? (Featuring a drawing that isn’t public yet but will be within the next few days I think, and is cool! I promise)
-Textile Tour: What did I make on the loom and knitting needles since my brain injury? With commentary both conceptual and humorous.
-My Favorite Books as a child and WHY
-Advice Column: Which birds shouldn’t we gossip about?
Tell me what you think. I mean it!
I’ve been feeling ready to emerge from the quiet isolation of my recovery.
I am not the same as I was.
I can’t stay out late, I can’t ride roller coasters, I prefer to not be on the computer, I often forget, I am deeply recommitted to my creative work and picture-book making future, I am more confident in who I am, I am so much more peaceful.

Lots of love,
Sara

I would like to hear about your favorite books as a child and why. Also, stories about birds and shiny bugs and plants surprising you in spring. Also TBI life lessons and how you make art. :)
