Dear friends,
I’d like to share two images with you from books I happened to find (b), or sought out (a).
First: Falling Piece, Yoko Ono, 1962. Published in Grapefruit. I chose to share this performance prompt for its metaphorical relevance to the way I’ve been feeling all summer and since my official adhd diagnosis. Outside of myself, making myself vulnerable to others, watching it all with an investigative lens. The irony is that I did actually fall in public yesterday, my mind so heavy with thoughts that I failed to see a big clear plexiglass vitrine stretched out on the floor in front of me. The pain in my shin is reminding me to simplify, simplify, quiet.
Second: The perfect first page from The tree angel; a story and play written by Judith Martin & Remy Charlip. Designed and illustrated by Remy Charlip. 1962. I aspire to this.
The gist of it is: I’m taking a little break from scheduled writing here for a while. Paid subscriptions are paused. I received my official ADHD diagnosis a couple weeks ago and let me tell you — this brain is on overdrive! Lots to take care of, lots to consider, lots to soften, lots to simplify. I do love what I’ve made here, so I’ll likely be back before long to make more. But for now I’m cleaning the house of my mind.
Next week I’m off to Milkwood for an illustration workshop focused on “getting out of your head and onto the page”… obviously perfect timing. I’m very excited.
With love,
Sara
Congrats on the diagnosis!
Until next time! Learn every day!
