Hello friends,

Today your assignment is to draw a self portrait using your least favorite color.

Assignment 11: The Worst

You’ll know it when you see it, though you’ll almost certainly have to dig a bit.

Find your least favorite color underneath all the rest: it might be an oil pastel whose edge has never touched paper, or perhaps you find several of the same color of pencil in the bottom of the dusty bin in the farthest reach of your closet. It’s not the poppy red pencil which you lovingly carved your name into when it became a stub. It’s a color you don’t own any clothes in. It might even make you shudder… It’s: Violet.

(At least… for me. Sorry not-sorry to all the royal purple lovers out there… weirdos.)

So you’ve found your least favorite color. Now, with that truly terribly color (pencil, pastel, marker, crayon, paint, whatever) and paper, situate yourself in front of a mirror and make a very yucky face—the sort of face you make when you find moldy leftovers in the fridge—and draw it. This is serious, folks.

P.S. When you’ve finished your drawing and you’re tidying up, what will you do with your least favorite color? Back in the dusty bin? The Trash!? Pawned off on some misguided purple-loving friend?
